THUR June 3 | loom Weaves Rhythm | Espana
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Note from loom Co-creator Brent Crampton:
loom Weaves Rhythm - what's
that about? . . . Well, before there was loom, there was Rhythm. And I
don't mean that in some esoteric creationist sort of way. There
literally was a party that took place every Wednesday night at Bricktop
in Lincoln by the name of Rhythm from around 2004-2005. Not many of you
have heard of it because, well . . . not many people went. But Dr.
Zhivago and myself DJ'ed it every week for nearly a year. Jay Kline was
always there without fail with the one or two other people we drove up
from Omaha with, often times being the only ones on the dance floor for
up to an hour. The music that was played, the relationships that were
formed, the inspiration that was born . . . it all helped lead to what
later became known as loom.
So on this night, we give a long
overdue welcome to the other resident Rhythm DJ, Dr. Zhivago as we delve
into an ALL VINYL set of old school deep house selections that were
played throughout the Rhythm period.
Join us for a night of
nostalgia and the roots of the loom story.

𝄂𝄂𝄂𝄂 A note
from
loom co-creator Brent Crampton 𝄃𝄃𝄃𝄃
loom brings you a live music
experience with Orgone - an LA-based Funk/Soul/Afrobeat band that's
signed to one of my favorite labels - Ubiquity Records. This is all last
minute and it's a Monday, I know. But they're passing through town on
tour and their music was just too good to pass up. And given that it's a
Monday night, it made sense to make Orgone's first appearance in Omaha
an intimate one, so the whole thing will be hosted in the basement of
the "Studio...Gallery" space next to Cecil's Cafe on the SouthEast
corner of 50th & Dodge. The venue is around 50-person capacity, so
please get their early. We won't be serving any alcohol due to the
nature of the space. but we encourage you to bring your own libations.

sets to follow from the loom crew.
𝄂𝄂𝄂𝄂 Orgone Bio 𝄃𝄃𝄃𝄃
With
a rooted sense of funk, soul, afrobeat, deep rhythms and an intimate
understanding of dj culture as well as each others’ individual talents,
Orgone seamlessly slides through multiple styles and dynamic
performances. Orgone backs this up by taking the listener on a musical
journey from the sounds of Los Angeles to horn and percussion driven
Lagos, rhythms of a New York club and down to the raw sounds of New
Orleans, all injected with a heavy brand of raw funk power.
Their
first recording was a cover of “Funky Nassau" which became a DJ fave
worldwide- getting a 12” club re-edit by renowned dj Danny Krivit (Nuff
Rope). It then appeared on Ubiquity’s Rewind Volume 4 comp, which began
the band’s relationship with the prestigious label.
Gaining
worldwide recognition for their raw studio recordings and exciting live
sets led to the release of “The Killion Floor” on Ubiquity records- a
full length album of hard hitting afro-soul & funk from the 9 piece
band that's reminiscent of classic acts like Rufus, War & Mandrill,
or modern funk staples like Sharon Jones or Breakestra, they’re quick to
point out that Orgone is unique.
Orgone has toured with Bun B
(from UGK), Pharoahe Monch, Plantlife (including a BBC performance for
Jools Holland), Little Brother, Nice and Smooth, Black Sheep and New
Orleans funk legend Eddie Bo at a Hurricane Katrina benefit. To top it
off, most of the group can be heard on recent major recordings by Alicia
Keys, Estelle, Anthony Hamilton, Jennifer Hudson, Solange Knowles and
many other R&B/Soul artists.

𝄂𝄂𝄂𝄂 Note from loom
Co-creator Brent Crampton 𝄂𝄂𝄂𝄂
First off, for all of you who I
come across regularly that tell me they just can't pull a weekday night
dance party due to their work schedule - this one's partly for you!
Jackson Artworks has been gracious enough to host us in their amazing
art gallery space in the midst of the Old Market on a Friday night with
over 4,500 square feet of space.
We're also doing this event for
the lovers and die hard believers of the World Cup being hosted in
South Africa this year. When the idea of doing a World Cup-themed loom
was first brought up by a few in the loom crew, I was a bit thrown off.
But after thinking about it - the whole occasion completely links with
loom. The idea of nearly the entire world coming together and finding a
commonality around something that isn't war . . . Well, we'll support
that AND throw a dance party in celebration of it!
So wear your
favorite team's jersey for discounted admission - but no worries if you
don't have one. Half of all the proceeds from the door will be given to
PayItForward Charity who will in turn be making a donation to the
American Cancer Society.
