Danny Krivit interview up!

For those that don't know, I also dabble in journalism. I've currently be freelancing for 5 Magazine, which is a Chicago-based magazine that focuses on the house music sub-culture. I highly encourage you all to check out their site and get a subscription - 5 Magazine.

Picture_3 For the June issue, I had the extreme and inspiring pleasure to interview dance legend, Danny Krivit. (Note: I'm interviewing Danny and not vice-a-versa as some people had it confused with the Rich Medina article - and subsequently thought I had a new born child).

Here's a snippet:

Brent Crampton: After witnessing so many cycles in music history, where would you say we are on the cycle in this current decade?

Danny Krivit: This is a more complicated cycle. In the case of hip-hop . . . it was this big money-making machine. People were saying, "Okay, it's the next disco." Once the industry got behind it, it was almost too late - you knew where it was going. So usually we'd know it was the end of the mainstream cycle and would make room for the next thing. But I think the cycle has been broken . . . we got side-swiped by the internet and downloading . . . The main thing for me is that my whole life I knew people had leisure time, and were able to enjoy music in their leisure time. Now people have a shorter tolerance and patience so they tend to reach for gimmicks instead of music that grows on you. So much music I like now I didn't like at first. These days, you don't have the time for that and you might never like that song because you'll never give it time to grow on you . . .
