Our past weekend was back-to-back with dynamic programming, starting Thursday as one of Omaha's most sultry and soulful voices, Dani Cleveland, hosted a fully seated night of musical guests (Check PICS by Eric Herrera). While Friday we went into young-entrepreneurs-turn-party-goers with Big Omaha's closing party (Check PICS by Dan Thompson). And then on Saturday, we had live body paint from Chicago-based artist Mario Ink with music from Midwest legend, Woody McBride (Check PICS by Eric Herrera). In all, a well rounded week of art, music and celebration.    ////    For our musical offering this week, we brought in a guest DJ for our weekly Crate & Craft Club vinyl night a la DJ eL NeSs, who laid down a four-hour soul & funk set on 45's (LISTEN & DOWNLOAD a snippet).    Behind the Bar ... Tonight (Wednesday) we have a complimentary beer tasting from 5-6 pm for American Craft Beer Week. We'll be tapping some great selections from Odell Brewing Company, including their 90 Shilling & IPA. Last Friday The Church of Tomorrow crew used 3,000 feet of aluminum foil to cover our bar in ode to Andy Warhol's Factory for a one-night only installation piece. If you missed it, you really missed out because this marked the last of a series of parties TCOT conducted at our venue. We're super grateful for all the flavor they brought our way. And since one half of the project, Mark Steffan, is moving to NYC, Mike Machian of shoottofill put together an incredible INTERVIEW diving into the world of their ideals. As well, check PHOTOS and VIDEO from the night (more photos to come). Mark will be sorely missed. But we'll be bringing him back for the second annual David Bowie Halloween party in October, so sit tight.    ////   Make Believe Recordings just released a VIDEO that was shot live at our place of Midtown Marauders performing their lyrics over the beat of a J Dilla track, reproduced instrumentally by The DillaGents. The show was put on back in February to raise money for the J Dilla Foundation.    The Berry & Rye ...   Some exciting things happening down at The Berry & Rye ... We're now partnered with The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts to cater the bar at Bemis' upcoming art talks and openings starting in late May. We're very excited to be partnered with what's been called, "[Omaha's] most ground breaking arts organizations." We're coming off of an amazing weekend that celebrated the power of 90's nostalgia ... Friday The Church of Tomorrow & Goo teamed up for an early 90's ride through rave and acid house music. As if the combo wasn't enough, Todd Fink from The Faint made a rare Goo DJ appearance. Check the PHOTOS by Eric Herrera. And Saturday, we paid tribute to the monster that is 90's hip hop. Four hours of music doesn't even touch the tip of what can be played, but Kobrakyle & Brent Crampton had the place brimming with vibes. As we've previously announced, a few of the House of Loom folks took over the Old Market bar named Myth Martini Lounge on 1105 Howard St. While the space is still currently operating as Myth, a new craft cocktail concept is set to launch titled THE BERRY & RYE. Though the new concept won't officially jump start until sometime in April, each week new progress is made in transforming the look and taste of the space. We'll be giving weekly updates on the progress in our newsletter here. For the time being, stop down this week at Myth, ask the bartender nicely, and he'll give you a sneak peak into the upcoming cocktail program. Also be sure to join our Facebook page to stay tuned. Lots of folks are chasing down these bottles now that they're letting a handful pass the river, and we were lucky enough to get one. On Saturday we held our sixth annual loom Weaves Brasil Carnaval celebration. By 9:40 pm, the dance floor was in full motion, filled with Brazilians forming circles and chanting lyrics in Portuguese. The next four hours didn't slow down one bit. Fortunately we had some great documentation, including a VIDEO recap by Mike Machian and PHOTOS by Dillon Gitano (more on the way) ... Leading up to the event, Brent Crampton was INTERVIEWED on KVNO via loom's history of celebrating carnival.   ////   If we don't get snowed out, tomorrow is another installment of our monthly spoken word night, Verbal Gumbo. The Reader just did a FEATURE on the night, diving into the community, artistic expression and collaboration behind it.  ////  Other events coming up this week we don't want you to miss: Monday we have a special hip hop show with Dark Time Sunshine Band, Tuesday is Karaoke Theatre's 1-year anniversary and March 9th will be loom's 7-year anniversary. DJ Spinna is an anomaly in music. From his roots in funk, soul, jazz to his foundation in hip-hop, all the while with is eye to the future on electronic and dance music, Spinna has succeeded in multiple fields. 

Ask an old school hip-hop head and they'll say he was a cornerstone of hip-hop's late 90's indie-uprise.
